LGV Driver Training

Our LGV Driver Training Programme is the 1st steps in a new career within the Logistics & Transport Industry. It is designed to train candidates to drive Large Goods Vehicles (LGV CAT C). Candidates must already hold a car licence (CAT B).

This programme includes the following per person:

• Medical Assessment carried out by our doctor at GTG Training
• Provisional Licence paperwork completed at GTG and posted to DVSA
• Online Theory Study Material
• Theory Tests (Multiple Choice + Hazard Perception. A Drivers CPC Case Study is also required for those who passed their car test before 1997.
• Mock Theory Session – Candidates will attend GTG and complete mock theory tests with a trained instructor
• 18 Hours Driver Training on a 1-2-1 basis
• Practical DVSA Test
• CPC Module 4 Training & Test (Required if candidates passed their car test before 1997)
• Drivers CPC Periodic hours (Required for those who passed their car test after 1997)
• Resit – 1 resit for each of the 3 theory tests
• Resit – In the event that the candidate fails their final practical test we will offer a further 4 hours training & test


Stage 1 Candidates will attend GTG Training Glasgow to complete their LGV medical in order to obtain their provisional licence. Candidates will be issued with study material to prepare for their theory tests. Candidates will be given approximately 3 weeks to study prior to the theory test taking place. Please note the theory test cannot be taken until the candidate is in possession of their LGV Provisional Licence.

Stage 2 Candidates will attend GTG Training Glasgow to attend a Mock Theory session with one of our instructors. It gives the candidates the opportunity to take mock theory tests in preparation for their actual test.

Stage 3 The provisional licence will be returned from the DVLA to allow candidates to sit their theory tests. Please also note that if candidates have any previous / current medical conditions this may hold up the process at the DVLA and it can take longer for the licence to be returned. The theory tests will be pre-arranged for candidates and are taken place at the Clydebank DVSA testing centre.

Stage 4 On successful completion of their theory tests candidates will attend GTG Training for 18 hours LGV training and test. The training ratio is 1:1. If the candidate fails their practical test the cost of a further 1-day training and test will be included and arranged.
